Frequently Asked Questions
-
We conduct searches for full-time and part-time nannies, live-in and live-out nannies, career nannies, infant-experienced professionals, temporary and seasonal nannies, travel nannies, after-school and weekend nannies, and combined nanny-family assistant roles. Every search is structured around the family’s actual schedule, responsibilities and expectations.
-
A nanny’s primary responsibility is the care, safety and development of the children. A nanny-family assistant combines childcare with responsibilities such as family scheduling, school coordination, errands, children’s appointments, travel preparation and other family-related administration. The position description and compensation should accurately reflect the balance between both roles.
-
Yes, when the responsibilities are clearly defined and realistically compatible with the childcare schedule. Appropriate duties may include children’s laundry, meal preparation, organization and maintaining nurseries, bedrooms and play areas. General housekeeping should not be assumed unless the position is intentionally structured and compensated as a combined nanny-household support role.
-
We can conduct searches for nannies with substantial infant experience and, when requested, professionals with specialized newborn-care training. Because newborn care requires distinct experience, the family’s needs, schedule and expectations will be carefully defined before the search begins.
-
Yes. We can assist with temporary coverage, schol breaks, summer schedules, extended stays, family travel and seasonal residences. Availability can be limited for short-notice assignments, so beginning the search as early as possible is recommended.
-
The process begins with a confidential consultation and detailed household intake. We consider the children’s ages, developmental needs, routines, schedule, parenting preferences, household environment, travel requirements, desired responsibilities and the level of flexibility the position requires.
-
Before presentation, candidates undergo a preliminary interview and review of their relevant childcare and private-household experience, availability, compensation expectations and alignment with the approved position. We also consider communication style, judgment, emotional maturity, discretion, reliability and compatibility with the family’s values and household culture.
-
Professional references and applicable third-party screening are completed at the appropriate stage of the selection process, generally after the family has interviewed and conditionally selected a candidate. Depending on the position, screening may include identity, criminal-history, driving-record or credential verification, subject to applicable law and the candidate’s authorization.
-
Current infant or pediatric CPR and first-aid certification may be required depending on the children’s ages and the responsibilities of the position. Any required certifications will be identified in the approved placement profile and verified during the appropriate stage of the search.
-
Yes. Driving, domestic or international travel, overnight care and schedule flexibility can be incorporated into the search criteria. When driving is required, the family should clearly define vehicle access, insurance requirements, transportation responsibilities and the expected driving schedule.
-
Timing depends on the location, schedule, compensation, responsibilities and specificity of the family’s requirements. A thoughtfully conducted permanent search commonly takes several weeks, while highly specialized or unusually structured roles may take longer. Temporary and urgent searches may move more quickly, but candidate availability cannot be guaranteed.
-
The family makes the final hiring decision. Coastal Peace of Mind defines the role, conducts the search, evaluates potential candidates, coordinates introductions and supports the selection process, but the family personally interviews candidates and determines who is the right fit.
-
The family is the nanny’s employer and is responsible for the employment relationship, including compensation, payroll, taxes, workers’ compensation, scheduling, overtime, paid leave and compliance with applicable employment requirements. Coastal Peace of Mind serves as the placement agency and does not employ or jointly employ the nanny.
-
Fees depend on whether the placement is permanent, temporary or seasonal and are explained before the search begins. The applicable fee structure, payment schedule and any placement protection are stated in the client’s written placement agreement.
-
A paid pretrial may be arranged when appropriate and agreed upon by the family and candidate. A pretrial allows both parties to experience the working relationship before making a longer-term commitment, but the candidate must be lawfully compensated and the duties, schedule and expectations should be confirmed in advance.
-
Coastal Peace of Mind remains available for reasonable placement-health check-ins during the applicable support period. These conversations are intended to clarify expectations, support communication and identify transitional concerns while the family and nanny establish their working relationship.
-
No agency can guarantee a candidate’s future performance, conduct or length of employment. Coastal Peace of Mind conducts each search in good faith and follows a thoughtful evaluation process. Qualifying permanent placements may include conditional replacement protection as described in the client’s placement agreement.
-
Discretion is fundamental to our process. Household, family and security information is shared only as reasonably necessary for the search, and candidates receive only the information required to evaluate the opportunity. Sensitive identifying details are not included in public job postings.
